Sarah’s Rainbow Baby “Sprinkle”

When I was in middle school and high school, I remember aspiring to be an event planner when I grew up. Or as I called it, a “party planner”. For me, there’s just something about the organization and planning leading up to a big event that’s thrilling. And then when the party arrives and it’s just the way you envisioned is so rewarding. I have a friend who lost a baby earlier this year to SIDS. She and her husband are expecting again. When I found out no one was planning her baby shower, I jumped at the chance. A rainbow baby shower? Count me in.

My story with infant loss is different than Sarah’s, but we both have rainbow babies. I am so excited for her little baby to get here so she and Bastian can be best friends. As I started planning her shower, she told me that she wanted a rainbow baby shower theme. And apparently, a baby shower for your second baby is referred to as a “sprinkle”. How cute is that? Thus, a rainbow baby shower “sprinkle”.

Let’s be honest, it’s hard to get things done when you have a wiggly baby who takes up the majority of your attention every day. Somehow, I thought I could get EVERYTHING done for this party on the day of the party. Picking up balloons, the cake, making the snacks/treats, and making decorations. I was definitely in over my head. I ended up leaving some of the decorations at my house which seriously bummed me out. Despite that, the party was still so cute.

We need to take a minute to talk about this cake. When I first started planning the shower, I reached out to Mckenzi on instagram. Her entire instagram feed was filled with absolutely gorgeous cakes. And macarons. You all know how much I love macarons. And I seriously admire anyone skilled enough to make them on a consistent basis. I asked her if she would make a cake and boy did she make a cake. Let’s be honest. A rainbow baby shower is kind of a hard theme. It’s hard to plan rainbow anything without making it gaudy or tacky. But we wanted the party to still be cute and classy. She went above and beyond my expectations and it was absolutely perfect.

And if only you guys could’ve TASTED the cake. Every time someone walked in the door, Sarah would say, “Do you want some cake? It’s pumpkin with cheesecake filling and cookie butter!” It was seriously incredible.
