Appendicitis: Awkward and Awesome Fridays

The last two weeks have been crazy, I just don’t even know where to start! We’ve spent a lot of really great quality time together, and my mom has been in town which has been fun! I also got appendicitis and had to get an appendectomy, not so fun. Luckily those two events coincided, so my mom was able to watch Bastian while I had surgery. Recovery isn’t too bad, but I can’t work out til I’m healed, which is why you didn’t see my 10 week postpartum update on the blog this week! We’re taking a quick break from Pure Barre til the doctor clears me for exercise, which will hopefully just be another few weeks. After I’m doing it again I’ll start my postpartum updates again.

AWKWARD:

Before we went to the ER, we were sitting at Urgent Care and this other patient walked past and very loudly said “WOW. SHE’S PALE.” So I guess it’s time for me to start tanning, haha.

I totally got mansplained at the ER! My doctor told me that it was appendicitis and that I should go to the Emergency Room. When the doctor there asked why were there I said, “Appendicitis”. He looked at me like I was incompetent and then said “SUPPOSED appendicitis”. OK.

All of my awkward moments are about appendicitis, I guess. I was googling why someone gets appendicitis and stumbled upon a bunch of suggested searches for people trying to give themselves appendicitis?? I don’t know why anyone would WANT their appendix out. (I have had a lot of people ask me if it’s more painful than labor, because apparently that’s a theory that’s been going around. And the answer is no. Nothing is more painful than labor, except when a man gets a cold.)

AWESOME:

I’m still just so grateful my mom was in town during my surgery! She was able to help out with Bastian the few days after surgery where I couldn’t hold him because it hurt too badly.

Bastian and I went with my little sister to her doctors appointment this week, and the nurse said that Bastian was the cutest baby ever.

I breastfed in public for the first time without a cover! I know I’ve always been allowed to, but I’m afraid someone is going to yell at me for it. We went to get sno cones and I didn’t bring my cover, so I just popped my boob out. No one even said anything, so do I even need a cover anymore? Haha.

We finally got our plane tickets to Nashville for Seth’s birthday. We’re super excited to go, and you guys can expect some amazing pictures, videos, and blog posts from our trip!

Because of the recovery from my surgery, we haven’t really gone out and done a lot, which is sad! But we have a lot of fun stuff planned in the next month. Also, I’d love to hear feedback on the Awkward and Awesome series and how you all are liking it so far? I always feel like my life is so interesting but then I sit down to write this blog post every two weeks and forget almost everything that’s happened recently! This is the third Awkward and Awesome post I’ve done so far, and I like having a regular series to keep everyone updated on my life, but I want to make sure that it’s still cohesive and that everyone is enjoying this series. 🙂
