Creating the Perfect Guest Bedroom

After Seth and I finished decorating the nursery, I was still nesting. We debated for a while to do with our spare room; we don’t really have a lot of visitors, so a guest room seemed a little unnecessary since I wasn’t sure if it would ever get used. The spare room has the most gorgeous flooring, though, and has the best lighting in the entire house. It seemed like such a waste to just do nothing with that room.

So we decided to create a room that we could let the occasional visitor spend the night in, but that would have a slightly higher purpose: a studio. With such perfect lighting, it seemed like the perfect room to convert into a photo studio.

You’ll have to excuse how messy the room is and the fact that I’d already started painting it when I took these photos. I’ll blame the pregnancy brain.

Probably the highlight of this room is the brick wallpaper we chose for the accent wall. We decided to use a fabric/peel and stick wallpaper instead of a traditional wallpaper, from a company called In An Instant Art. This way, if we ever decide to switch out the wallpaper(because we’ll be using this room as a photography studio) we can easily change it without hours of steaming and sticky paste. We’ve absolutely fallen in love with the wallpaper, so I highly doubt we’ll ever decide to change it, but it’s nice to know that it can be removed! Fabric wallpaper is also perfect if you’re just renting, because you can get the look you want without getting in trouble with your landlord. The company that sent us this wallpaper has a ton of absolutely gorgeous and unique wallpaper prints.

We could’ve just painted the rest of the room white, but honestly, I don’t love plain white walls for a photo backdrop. I wanted to pick a color that was still neutral and was still light. Because I was pregnant when we were remodeling this room, I was worried about paint fumes. I found a company called Fusion Mineral Paint that sells paint with zero VOC, making it much safer for me to use while pregnant.

One of the best things about the paint that I picked though, was the high pigmentation. It took only one coat for the entire room, and if you’ll believe it, it only took half a gallon for the entire room.

This flooring is one of my favorite things about our entire house. We had to have a cute room to compliment how beautiful the floors were.

We kept the rest of the room really simple; just Ikea furniture and simple furnishings that could be easily moved around for when we take pictures.

After Seth and I finished taking the pictures of the room, Seth asked me if we could start sleeping in the guest room instead of in our room. I guess this means one of our next projects should be to finish unpacking and setting up the master bedroom..
