2019 Goals and Resolutions

I love the new year. Not to be confused with a love for the month of January, but I love the opportunity that comes with the new year. Goal setting is one of my favorite things, so it would make sense that I would love new years. When I was in college, I shied away from the idea of new years resolutions. I felt, and still do, that making lofty goals for the sake of making goals at the beginning of a year is pointless. If you aren’t passionate about your goals, you won’t achieve them. That being said, I am a very goal oriented person. I write out my list of goals sometime between November and December, and tape it to the side of my fridge. That way, I see it and am constantly reminded of my goals and how I can achieve them, throughout the year.

Monthly date nights

I am horrible at dating my husband. I could count on one hand the amount of dates that we went on last year. My goal this year is to do two dates a month, but I feel like it is more likely to be one a month.

Read 52 books

I used to LOVE reading. In middle school, I remember going to the library and checking out 29 books over a weekend. The librarian raised her eyebrows and asked my mom if I should really check out all of those books. My mom shrugged and said, “she’ll read them all before we come back”. Two weeks later, the ones I deemed worth reading, were read. Although I will never have the time to read 20+ books in two weeks ever again, I think the goal of reading 1 book a week is doable! I’ve been posting about the books I’m reading on my instagram stories, so make sure to follow along there!

Visit 6 new places

We had a lot of travel plans last year, and almost all of them fell through. I’m excited for this year though because it’s looking like our travel plans are going to work out. We are planning to go to a few our favorite places again(Paris and Iceland, specifically), but want to make time for at least 6 new destinations.

Make every recipe from both of Chrissy Teigen’s cookbooks

I love Chrissy Teigen. Adore her. Her cookbooks? Incredible. I’ve made a handful of recipes from her first cookbook, and for Christmas, Seth gifted me her second one. Flipping through it on Christmas day, I decided I wanted to cook every single recipe. Even the ones I didn’t think I’d like. She has 206 recipes total, which means I only have to make 3-4 recipes per week in order to hit my goal. We’re two weeks and roughly 7 recipes in and my life is already better.

Write more

I think back fondly of the days that I wrote three blog posts per week. I also think back fondly of those days, because Bastian was still taking two naps a day, I only had one dog that required constant attention, and I hadn’t opened my clothing company yet. There was just so much more time back then. This year, I really want to make time for more writing. I have a few different writing projects(some that have been on the back burner for literal years), but my main goal is to write 1 blog post a week.

Start posting youtube videos

I’ve had a lot of requests for youtube videos and vlogs. We post a vlog anytime we take a trip, but one of our goals this year is to post one youtube video per month.

Get our dogs really well trained

Both of our dogs are very energetic rescues. I will never stop praising rescuing dogs from shelters instead of going to puppy mills or breeders. It’s so much more humane to go to a shelter, especially since puppy mills are known for abuse and neglect. I’ll get off my soapbox. Our dogs have a little bit too much energy for me. Neither of them were very well trained, but we were used to our old dog, Thunder, who had been docile and incredibly well trained when we adopted him. Our dogs now are so sweet but in serious need of training. One of my loftiest goals this year is to get both of them really well trained.

What are some of your goals for the new year? I think that sharing our goals and intentions with others helps us actually achieve our goals.
