You and Me: One Month

The last month has been an absolute whirlwind. I’ve been told so many times that the days are long but the years are short, and I don’t think anything could be a more accurate description. Being a mom has been the most rewarding experience of my life, and I love being a mom to Bastian.

It’s been an absolutely crazy month since Bastian was born. Lots of cuddles, lots of poopy diapers, and lots of breakfast in bed courtesy of Seth.

He still sleeps the majority of every day, which gives me plenty of time to get work done(although his favorite napping position is on my chest, so I really only get the kind of work done that can be done while sitting still), but he’s starting to fight his nap times every day which results in a cranky baby. I know that the world is interesting, but honestly, I’d rather nap, so he should take advantage of it while he can, right?

We absolutely adore every single moment with our constantly growing baby. He is absolutely fascinated by almost everything in his environment, and because he has such big eyes, anytime he’s not asleep he looks like he’s in shock with his big eyes so wide. We think it’s hilarious.

He’s starting to lose all of his gorgeous dark hair he was born with, so we’re excited to see what color his hair will be when it grows back in. He’s really such a well mannered baby, I feel like we lucked out. I think that because I had such a hard pregnancy, God decided to give me a break and bless me with a perfect baby, haha. Whatever the reason, I’m grateful to have such a happy baby.

Sometimes I don’t think he’s that much bigger than when he was first born, but then I look back at photos of his wrinkly face and tiny hands from when he was just a few days old and I feel like it’s impossible that he’s grown as much as he has! He’s put on at least a pound( I suspect more, since he’d gained half a pound at his 2 week checkup), and he now proudly sports the cutest double chin.

We still haven’t gotten him to laugh or smile in response to us, but he’s laughed a few times in his sleep, and getting sleepy always makes him really smiley, so that’s my favorite part of every day.

Bastian Oak McCausland, cutest baby around, love of my life, worlds best sleeper(I may rescind this title in the months to come), and the most adorable balding man I’ve ever seen. Happy one month of life.
