Nightly Skincare Routine for Dry/Combo Skin

I get asked pretty regularly what my skincare routine is. And as a disclaimer, before going over my skincare routine, is that I naturally have pretty clear skin! My biggest skincare woe has always been dry skin. I spent the last few years feeling pretty strongly that I had extremely dry skin. And then, about six months ago, I found out that I had misdiagnosed my skin. I have dry/combo skin. And more often than not, that skin is dehydrated. Making this clarification helped me hone in on my ideal skincare routine for dry/combo skin.

My Nightly Routine

Another quick disclaimer? My skincare routine differs slightly on a day to day basis. So this post will go over what is consistently my routine, and I’ll note anytime there is something that differs! And yes, I have a different routine for morning and night! A lot of the products I use at night carry over to what I use in the morning but there are a few key differences. So you can expect another post going over my morning skincare routine within a few months or so.

Step 1: Cleansers

When I cleanse at night, I like to use the First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser. I use this in conjunction with my Clarisonic Mia Prima cleansing brush. This is a fairly new step to my skincare routine, but one of the ones I have noticed the biggest change with! It removes my makeup so much better than when I would previously just cleanse with my hands, and it’s less gross than using a wash cloth or something. Plus it has helped with the size of my pores!

Step 2: Toner

For nighttime, I use Pixi Beauty Vitamin C tonic. Super simple, and I love how inexpensive it is! The bottle is pretty small, but since I only use it once a day, it lasts a good amount of time!

Step 3: Serums

This is a multi-step step, haha. I use a few different serums, and all for different reasons!

-Hyaluronic Acid. I use the Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% and LOVE it. A few drops all over my face(I also use this in the mornings!).

Pixi Beauty Vitamin C Serum. I loooove Vitamin C in my skincare routine. This is another inexpensive product that works wonders. I add a few drops all over my face with the hyaluronic acid, and then rub them into my skin together.

Josie Maran Anti Aging Milk. This one is soo good and I apply a few drops all over my face after I’ve rubbed the other two serums in.

Step 4: Moisturizer/Night cream

When I’m sleeping, I like a heavier cream to really soak into my skin and do a lot of damage control. There are two that I switch back and forth between, just really whichever one I am feeling that night! First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Hydra-Firm Sleeping Cream, and Algenist GENIUS Sleeping Collagen.

Step 5: Eye Cream

I’m a firm believer in Eye Cream. I am also a firm believer in Philosophy’s Renewed Hope in a Jar Eye. I’ve been using it for 2 years, and it’s still my favorite Eye Cream.

Step 6: Facial Oil

Two words. Skin dope. I don’t do this step every night. It’s more of an “as needed” basis. So anytime my skin is feeling a little extra dry, flaky, or in need of extra love. I use this a few times a week! A bottle will last you a lifetime, truly. I drop a few drops of Josie Maran Skin Dope on my trouble areas, and rub it in. For me, that’s my nose and the area around my mouth.

And that’s it! Again, my routine changes slightly every once in a while, but these are the ones that are on constant rotation, and some of my very favorite products! Make sure to sign up for my email newsletter so you’ll be notified when my morning skincare routine comes out in a few weeks!
